Featured bands: Tom Rigney & Flambeau, Zydeco Flames, and Gator Beat.
Zydeco (French: "les haricots" or "le zaricot", English: "green beans" or "snap beans") is a form of American roots music (or folk music) that evolved in southwest Louisiana in the early 19th century from Louisiana Creole music.
People of all ages enjoy dancing and partying to the fast tempos of zydeco music, created for social gatherings and dances, and which typically features piano accordion and a type of a washboard known as a "rub-board," "scrub-board," or frottoir. Originally, this style of music integrated waltzes, shuffles, two-steps, blues, rock and roll, and other dance music forms of the past. Today, the tradition of change and evolution in the music continues as zydeco bands integrate R&B, soul, brass band, reggae, urban hip-hop, ska, rock, Afro-Caribbean and other styles, in addition to the traditional forms.
Come out to Freeway Gardens on Friday night for a great start to this party weekend.
In 2010 we presented these bands and more!
